This invasion into parenting by the government makes me cringe. Parents no longer have the right to decide on their child’s nutritional needs. We must take a stand against this type of thing before the government decides to be even more invasive.
After determining that a preschooler’s homemade lunch was not healthy enough, a state worker required her to purchase a meal from the school cafeteria. The result was that instead of eating a turkey and cheese sandwich, banana, potato chips and apple juice, the student ate three chicken nuggets for lunch. According to the Carolina Journal, the state employee (who inspects each students lunch box) determined that the meal packed from home did not meet USDA nutrition standards.
It turns out that the meal the mother packed did meet the standard. Also the mother sent what her daughter would like versus the school lunch which her daughter only ate three chicken nuggets and threw the rest out. The bottom line is the mother knew what her daughter would eat and should eat and the institution failed. We need to show more respect for parents and less for government involvement.
